About the line
This line is probably the last line most people were able to find in stores due to the declining sales of the toys. The wave that followed, the Ecto Glow wave, saw such limited distributions that most stores never sold them. This line also marks the first time since the release of the initial four that Janine was not included. Despite only appearing in a dozen or so episodes of The Real Ghostbusters, Louis makes his second appearance as an action figure.
The previous wave of toys, the Power Pack Heroes, saw the most characters ever released in one line: 6. The Slimed Heroes wave saw 5 unique heroes released. If one includes variant figures, however, then a total of 8 figures can be counted. Peter, Ray, and Winston all have confirmed variant accessories. It is rumored that Egon also has variants shades to his mask, but I have not been able to confirm that rumor to date. This wave of toys also brought back the classic proton pack accessory. The backpack and gun were casted in a purple color rather than the classic blue. The stream color was unique to each figure. The companion ghosts were molded in a soft rubber so that they could be used to squirt ice water onto the heroes, thus sliming them with the thermochromatic paint. The "slime" feature was enhanced by removable masks that helped determine the shape of the slime pattern on the figures' faces. One of the most interesting aspects of this line, aside from the many variant figures, is Kenner made a new set of molds for this wave as evidenced by the copyright date on their back sides. The previous and following waves used the original 1986 molds. |
Peter Venkman with Tooth Ghost
Peter Venkman included the Tooth Ghost, a mask, and a light orange proton stream. There are two versions of the Tooth Ghost: light orange and dark orange. It's unclear which version, if either, is more rare.
|
Ray Stantz with Vapor GhostRay had green proton stream and, for the first time, was outfitted with a removable pair of Ecto Goggles. His mask and companion ghost came in two colors: red or blue. Blue is by far the most common version of this figure.

Winston Zeddmore with Sucker Ghost
Winston is probably my personal favorite from this line of figures. This figure is the only hero figure with the classic molds to feature both elbow pads. Even so, Kenner still only painted one of them. His ghost and mask were purple, but Winston also had another unique feature about him. You could either find him with a teal proton stream or a yellow proton stream. The yellow stream is definitely more difficult to come by than the teal due to the fragility of the proton packs and the limited release of the yellow variant.
|
Louis Tully with Four Eyed Ghost
Louis' proton stream was red. His mask and ghost were green. He retained his awkward pigeon-toed stance from his first appearance in the Power Pack lineup.
|
Egon Spengler with Brain Ghost
Egon was packaged with a dark orange proton stream, making it difficult to tell his proton pack apart from Peter's. His mask and companion ghost were both blue, and rumor has it that his mask came in two distinct shades of blue. I have yet to confirm this rumor, however. When slimed, Egon's chest reveals part of Einstein's famous equation showing the equivalence of energy and mass, thought I doubt most kids knew what it meant when they were busy busting that brain ghost!
