Ghostbusters 1 Figures
It only took 25 years to get figures based on the main actors' likenesses, but Mattel finally made it happen in 2009. Mattel made several figures based on heroes and villains alike from the first movie. Each figure was packaged with an accessory, ghost, or both. Each figure is highly articulated and fully poseable, making them great for display, photo shoots, and reenacting scenes from the movies.
Aside from the first 3 figures released, each figure was shipped in a white mailer box (Egon Spengler's box is shown). |
Slimed Heroes
Slimed Egon Spengler with Slimer
The first figure released in the series was Slimed Egon. He was first available at the 2009 San Diego Comic Convention. Mattel originally intended to release Slimed Peter first, Bill Murray's delay in allowing Mattel the rights to use his likeness forced Mattel to use Harold Ramis' likeness to make the 2009 SDCC release date.

Slimed Peter Venkman with Slimer
Peter didn't make his action figure debut until the 5th wave of the 6" figures. Slimed Peter featured Bill Murray's likeness with wetted down hair due to recently being slimed. This figure, coupled with play slime, can make for hours of fun reenacting the classic Sedgewick Hotel sliming scene.
Peter was also packaged with Slimer. This time around, Slimer's tongue is hanging out as if he is licking his lips. |
Classic Heroes
Winston Zeddemore with Trap
Winston is often considered the Ghostbusters who gets the short end of the stick. He is frequently left out of advertisements, received minimal screen time, and was not present at either of the on-screen busts. Despite all this, his GB1 action figure debut presented him with one of the most sought after accessories for display and action photos: the ghost trap. Ghostbusting is impossible without it, so collectors had no choice but to add him into their collection if they wanted the trap. The trap had hinged doors that opened and closed and came with a blue light cone for trapping those pesky spirits away.

Peter Venkman with Proton Stream
While the Slimed Peter Venkman figure allowed fans to reenact the Sedgewick Hotel scene, it did not allow them to imagine a generic bust. Not only did this figure provide an outlet for ghostbusters enthusiasts, it also came with a figure stand and a proton stream. The stream could be placed on the end of the gun or removed completely.
